Wayne Rooney's new TV project set for bidding war as details emerge
by Katy Hallam, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/katy-hallam/, Tom Bryant · Birmingham LiveColeen Rooney might be the one stealing the limelight in the jungle, but her husband Wayne is making his own television strides. The ex-Man United star could soon find himself at the heart of a four-way bidding war for a new documentary project.
Disney+, Sky, Netflix and Amazon are all reportedly keen on the new doc, which will chart his first year as the manager of Plymouth Argyle. It's expected to be peppered with footage of life at home with Coleen, providing a rounded view of Wayne's life as a manager, insiders have revealed.
Lorton Entertainment, who have an exclusive deal with the Rooneys and previously produced Coleen's critically-acclaimed The Real Wagatha Story on Disney, are behind the project. They also created the feature-length documentary titled Rooney, about the life of the former England captain, which was released on Amazon in 2022.

Filming has already kicked off, with a production crew spotted at recent matches, including Argyle's recent 1-0 Championship victory against Portsmouth, and their 1-1 draw at Derby County. Both Wayne and the football club stand to gain financially from the deal, with the streaming giants all prepared to offer seven-figure deals to secure the doc.
One insider commented: "It's early days but there is already a massive buzz around this project, which will show Wayne the football manager, as well as the family man, and how these two areas of his life co-exist.", reports the Mirror.
"Coleen may be in the jungle with all the cameras on her...but Wayne is just as in the spotlight too, and this project is set to be great news not only for the family coffers, but also Plymouth Argyle who are partners in the vision."
Rooney, who stepped up as Argyle's manager back in May, has been tight-lipped about the documentary so far, revealing only minimal details and maintaining that it won't disrupt the club’s routine. He commented: "They are not around every minute of every day. There will be set days which we give them to film. It's not going to be a massive difference for the players or for the staff to deal with. I think it will be good for the club."
However, he has let slip that "big brands" are interested in snapping up the docu-series, though he kept further details under wraps. This documentary follows hot on the heels of other football club docu-series such as Disney+'s 'Welcome to Wrexham' with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, and Netflix's 'Sunderland 'Til I Die' which ran for three intense seasons. Even Premier League heavyweights like Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Arsenal have had their share of behind-the-scenes exposure.
The Mirror dropped the scoop last month on the Rooneys’ hefty earnings. While Coleen's stint in 'I'm A Celebrity' netted her a cool £1.5million, that's set to look like pocket money next to an even more lucrative deal that's on the horizon for her.
Sources suggest that Coleen Rooney, 38, could surpass her husband Wayne's estimated lifetime earnings of £80 million. She has made significant investments in Applied Nutrition, a Liverpool-based sports health firm now listed on the Stock Exchange for £350m.
As an ambassador for the brand, Coleen purchased as many shares as possible and is set to launch her own line of proteins, collagen, and vitamin supplements in January. Before jetting off to Australia, she was delighted to discover that her range would be stocked by Holland and Barrett, with supermarkets to follow.
