Having spent four and a half years in Egypt, where he also represented Pyramids FC, Lakay will now be earning the big bucks in Libya, a league with a growing reputation for paying lucrative salaries.

One of Lakay's new teammates at Al Ahly is DR Congo striker Mayele, who was also recently signed from Egypt.

According to news outlet Ean Libya, Mayele will be earning $2.5 million a year (approximately R40 million).

This makes him one of the highest-paid players in the division.

Lakay, meanwhile, is said to earn somewhere in the region of $2 million annually (approximately R31 million).
