Hyderabad: Garbage dump near transformer raises fire risk
The garbage, which continues to accumulate at the spot, has become a source of inconvenience and poses a potential safety hazard.
by Mir Alamgir · The Siasat DailyHyderabad: A garbage dump located dangerously close to an electricity transformer on Jummerat Bazaar Road has become a major concern for residents, who fear a fire accident could put nearby houses and a dargah at risk.
The garbage, which continues to accumulate at the spot, has become a source of inconvenience and poses a potential safety hazard. Residents said the proximity of the waste to the electricity transformer was particularly worrying, as any fire breaking out could spread to the surrounding residential area and the nearby religious structure.
Arvind Singh, a local, said the garbage dump had become a persistent problem for people living in the neighbourhood. “Several houses are located close to the dumping spot, and a dargah is also situated nearby. The presence of an electricity transformer makes the situation more dangerous. Authorities should understand the risk and clear the garbage before an untoward incident occurs,” he said.
‘GHMC must find alternative location for waste collection’
Another resident, Suraj Singh, said people were concerned about the possibility of a fire and the lack of proper waste management. “It is not just about the foul smell and unhygienic conditions. The garbage is accumulating next to an electrical installation. If a fire breaks out, residents and people visiting the dargah could be affected. The GHMC should identify a suitable alternative location for waste collection,” he said.
The garbage has also become a problem for motorists using the busy road. Dinesh, a regular road user, said stray dogs frequently gathered around the waste and fought among themselves. “Sometimes the dogs suddenly run onto the road while chasing one another or fighting over food. Motorists have to brake suddenly or swerve to avoid hitting them, increasing the risk of accidents,” he said.
Residents urged the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to remove the accumulated waste, ensure regular garbage clearance and prevent people from dumping refuse near the transformer. They said immediate intervention was necessary to protect public safety and maintain cleanliness in the locality.
