LETTER: Mail ballots and the primary

Your Friday article, “Commissioners affirm primary election results,” reports that the primary had an “18.3 percent turnout rate among the roughly 1.5 million active and inactive registered voters.” It does not state that, out of 1.5 million ballots mailed, 82.7 percent or 1.245 million ballots were not used, at a cost of approximately $3 per ballot. More than $3.7 million of taxpayer money wasted.
