Pedestrian in crosswalk suffers life-threatening injuries in Las Vegas hit-and-run crash
by Caitlin Lilly / Las Vegas Review-Journal · Las Vegas Review-JournalThe Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries Tuesday night in the northwest Las Vegas Valley.
The department said in a news release that the crash occurred at 9:34 p.m. near Lake Mead Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive.
The pedestrian, identified by police as a 30-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Evidence at the scene and surveillance video indicated that the pedestrian was attempting to cross Lake Mead Boulevard in a marked crosswalk with the walk signal, according to police.
A white 2021 GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling south on Torrey Pines Drive, approaching the intersection with Lake Mead Boulevard.
Authorities said the driver failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian, knocking her to the ground and running her over with the left tires of the truck.
The driver, Lamberto Nunez, 27, initially fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody, police said. Nunez showed no signs of impairment, police noted.
