Family-owned barbecue spot in Cedar Hill to close as food costs rise
An owner of Mija Barbecue said the reason for the closure is “purely economic.”
by Zacharia Washington, Food Digital Producer | The Dallas Morning News · 5 NBCDFWA family-owned barbecue spot that has fed the Cedar Hill community for years is shutting its doors for good later this month.
One of the owners told The Dallas Morning News that rising beef prices, part of a nationwide surge in food costs, helped drive the decision.
Mija Barbecue has been a Cedar Hill mainstay for about seven years, owner Ryan Siegler said. Like many other barbecue joints, the brisket is a staple at Mija. Other popular orders include brisket grilled cheese, and pork belly burnt ends. Everything at the restaurant, except for the bread, is made from scratch, including the seasonings and sauces.
“We love the connections we made,” Siegler said. “We hate to walk away, but right now, unfortunately, that's just where things are.”
