The viral North Texas Christmas house that drew thousands of visitors last year will face public access restrictions this holiday season after the City of Dallas approved a special event permit for the surrounding street.

The permit allows residents in the Preston Hollow neighborhood to restrict pedestrian and vehicle traffic along the 6200 block of Deloache Avenue during designated times in December.

Under the permit, only residents of the 6200 block of Deloache Avenue and their guests are allowed access, with off-duty police officers hired to enforce the restrictions.

“The City’s Office of Special Events issued a permit to prohibit pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the 6200 block of Deloache except for residents and their guests,” a statement from Dallas City Hall said.

Residents in the Preston Hollow neighborhood raised concerns after heavy traffic and large crowds gathered last year to view the holiday display at 6215 Deloache Avenue. According to the city, the neighborhood group Preston Hollow Citizens For A Safer Community secured the permit and is responsible for hiring and paying four off-duty police officers to control access.

The permit allows the group to restrict vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Preston Road and Edgemere Road, including on weekend evenings throughout December.

In addition, a city website lists a private event permit for the street that restricts public access from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and until 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Day.

City officials emphasized that access is limited strictly to residents and those on an approved guest list.

“An invitation being circulated on social media is not valid for access,” the city said. “Only residents of the 6200 block of Deloache and those on their guest list will be admitted.”
