Camp Mystic proposes sale of its property as legal woes mount

The Texas Rangers alleged crimes in their investigation of the camp, according to an affidavit filed in Kerr County last week. No charges have been filed yet.

Camp Mystic has proposed selling its property as legal troubles have continued to mount for the Texas Hill Country retreat.

The private Christian camp for girls has submitted a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan in Houston that proposes auctioning off the enterprise’s 749 acres of land on the south fork of the Guadalupe River near Hunt, along with all its other assets, to an independent buyer.

The camp’s owners said they expect the purchaser to be backed by an ad hoc group of families that support the camp.

Nothing in the Chapter 11 plan requires the buyer to operate the property as a camp. Still, the owners are expressing their “preference” for a purchaser who will “maintain the historic mission” of Camp Mystic.
