Xcel Energy Texas Could Be Sending Refunds To Amarillo And More

· NewsTalk 1290

Everyone in Amarillo is looking to pinch pennies these days, right? I mean the economy is still a ways away from recovering and we're all looking for ways to cut costs and corners to save a little more money.

We're using less air conditioning in the house, keeping the lights turned off when it isn't necessary, and definitely cutting corners at the grocery store. So how would you feel if I told you that we're about to get a little money put back in our pocket?

If you're an Xcel Energy customer, this is something you'll want to know about.

Xcel recently proposed a $53 million refund to its customers. Yes, that's right, a refund. This would be a one-time credit that will hit your bill in December if everything is approved, and in all reality, it probably will be.

Adrian J. Rodriguez, the President of Xcel Energy Texas said, “The cost of fuel is a pass-through charge on customer bills, and when fuel costs fall, our customers realize the savings,” and we've seen fuel prices come down quite a bit recently.

Because of this, we will see a credit to our accounts to cover the amount we spent when we didn't need to. The credit for residential customers would project to be around $36.84 on your December bill. This is based on residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month, which is pretty normal.

While it may not seem like a ton of money, it's not, it's definitely something and nice to see a company doing the right thing, especially in these tough economic times for everyone. That $36 could buy someone a Christmas gift.
