Record quarter for ASML thanks to AI boom; Nearly €5 billion in profit in Q3
The AI boom has resulted in a record quarter for ASML, the Dutch chip machine maker reported on Wednesday. The Veldhoven-based company recorded a record €11.7 billion in net sales in the third quarter, resulting in a net income of €4.96 billion - over double the profit recorded a year earlier.
"Our customers continue to increase their short- and medium-term equipment demand forecasts with us, driven primarily by their views on the size and duration of AI-related investments. In light of their demand visibility, some customers are expressing an interest in placing orders with us for 2029 and even 2030,” said ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet.
ASML is currently the only company in the world that produces machines that can make the highly advanced chips needed for artificial intelligence applications. According to ASML, the demand for these machines is currently so high that it outpaces the company’s capacity.
“With such strong visibility and an order book momentum that continues to increase quarter on quarter this year, we now expect that our supply as currently planned for both 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet the demand of our customers. Given this, we are investigating ways to increase capacity for 2028 beyond the 30% increase we previously communicated,” Fouquet said.
ASML expects net sales of between €14.2 billion and €15.2 billion in the fourth quarter, bringing the total results for 2026 to between €44 billion and €45 billion.
