Eurostar to restart services after Channel Tunnel reopening, but not in Amsterdam

International train operator Eurostar is restarting its rail service to and from London, the company announced on Tuesday evening. However, the company's trains will not run between Amsterdam and London on Tuesday evening, a spokesperson said. Earlier Tuesday, Eurostar cancelled all train services to and from London for an unknown period of time due to problems with the overhead electricity lines in the Channel Tunnel.

The tunnel has now partially reopened. The problems are taking place during a busy time. During the Christmas and New Year's holiday season, many people use the trains that run through the Channel Tunnel.

It's still unclear whether people will be able to travel between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom on Eurostar trains again on Wednesday. "This will depend on the overhead line repairs being carried out by Getlink, which is currently working on it," she explained. Getlink is the owner of the Channel Tunnel.

Although trains will not resume operations to the Dutch capital, trains will again shuttle passengers between London and Brussels, and on the route connecting London and Paris, with service expected to gradually ramp up from Tuesday evening and into Wednesday. Travelers between these cities should expect delays, as trains in the tunnel can only run on one track.

"Therefore, we continue to advise our customers to rebook their journey for another day if possible," the Eurostar spokesperson said. Eurostar is also asking passengers not to visit train stations if their trips were cancelled.

Affected passengers can rebook their tickets to another date free of charge, request a refund, or receive a voucher. Eurostar will reimburse "reasonable" costs for stranded passengers, such as hotel accommodation or taxi fares.

"While this is beyond our control, we apologize for today's disruption and will keep customers updated with the latest information and support them in rebooking their reservations," the spokesperson said.
