House hunters can tour over 14,000 homes as Open House Day begins Saturday at 11 a.m.

House hunters can visit more properties Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the semiannual Open House Day organized by the real estate association NVM. More than 14,000 homes are taking part, up from just under 9,000 at the end of March. According to the organization, the jump reflects a broader rise in homes for sale as rental properties are put on the market.

More than 100,000 homes are listed for sale on Funda. Participation this time is smaller, at 14 percent, than roughly 19 months six months ago. NVM is not forecasting turnout but hopes bisitos numbers will rise with the number of homes open for viewing.

March drew 52,000 visitors, well above 45,000 in October last year, when the weather was poor. This time it was drier, the organization said.

The supply of homes for sale is still reportedly climbing because of an earlier wave of rental properties being sold, set off by less favorable tax rules for landlords. Demand is also easing as higher mortgage rates leave buyers able to borrow less. For the months ahead, ING and ABN Amro expect only limited gains in home prices.
