Gym chain Basic-Fit hacked; Data of 200,000 members in the Netherlands leaked

Hackers broke into the systems of gym chain Basic-Fit, stealing the data of approximately 200,000 members in the Netherlands. The affected members have been informed, the company said on Monday, NOS reports.

The leaked data includes membership information, names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and bank details. Basic-Fit does not keep copies of members’ identity documents, so these have not leaked. The hackers did not gain access to passwords, the company said.

According to Basic-Fit, the hack was detected and halted within a few minutes, but the hackers had already downloaded data. Data of Basic-Fit members in other countries has also leaked. The company did not disclose the total number of affected members.

At this time, Basic-Fit has no indication that the leaked data has been misused, the company said. It has informed all affected members.

Basic-Fit has over 2,150 gyms in 12 countries in Europe. The gym chain has over 5.8 million members.
