First injured in Swiss bus crash expected back in Netherlands this weekend

This weekend the first people involved in the deadly bus accident, where five were killed, in Switzerland on Thursday can return to the Netherlands, according to the emergency assistance center Eurocross. The people were a part of a group of about 45 that were on a bus tour by the Dutch tour provider Oad.

Eurocross is reportedly sending an ambulance with nurses to Switzerland to bring back those who need medical support during the journey back to the Netherlands.

On Thursday, five people were killed and 10 were seriously to moderately injured. Many others suffered minor injuries.

The investigation into the circumstances is continuing; a Swiss prosecutor told the news outlet 20 Minuten that a guardrail had pierced the bus. Authorities are also checking what if every passenger was wearing a seatbelt, he said.

The 20 Minuten asked an expert to review the crash site footage, who said that it appears due to the roadworks, a permanent guardrail had been removed, replacing a temporary barrier. According to the expert, that might have allowed for the bus to drive into the rail. However, that could not be fully determined from just pictures alone.
