Amsterdam's public transport the second most expensive in Europe: Greenpeace

Amsterdam has the second most expensive public transport of the European capitals, Greenpeace concluded in a study into public transport costs across 30 European countries. Only in London is a travel pass more expensive than in the Dutch capital.

Amsterdam also ranks second on the list of capitals where costs have risen most sharply since Greenpeace’s previous study in 2023. The price of travel passes in Amsterdam has increased by 55 percent. Only Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, saw a bigger increase at 67 percent.

The Greenpeace study looked at monthly and annual passes. According to the environmental organization, the costs of these passes are the most significant factor when people weigh up switching from cars to public transport.

Greenpeace analyzed prices in the capitals of the 27 European Union member states, plus Switzerland, Norway, and the United Kingdom.
