The Indian Navy has detained a mechanised boat from Tharuvaikulam in the district when it was reportedly spotted in the banned area near Kavarati Island, the capital of Lakshadweep. A group of nine fishermen ventured from Tharuvaikulam fish landing centre for multi-day deep sea stay fishing in the mechanised boat owned by Michael Raj of Tharuvaikulam in the last week of August. After selling the catch in Kochi, they went for fishing again from Kochi on September 4.
