Shusha, Azerbaijan: The 4th Shusha Global Media Forum began here on July 13 in the beautiful mountainous region of Shusha.
The Shusha Global Media Forum has become one of the most significant global events and a leading platform where ideas are shared and the visions of thought leaders are realized. This year’s theme is “The Mission of the Media in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust.”
More than 160 media representatives, experts, and government officials from 54 countries are attending the forum, representing 30 international news agencies and more than 60 leading media organizations. Representatives of around 10 international organizations and companies are also participating in the forum.
The forum aims to contribute to practical efforts to restore the trust that has been shaken between societies, strengthen digital solidarity, and promote peace by highlighting the importance of responsible media practices.
Media executives, government officials, and communications experts from around the world have gathered to discuss the role of journalism in promoting peace, countering disinformation, and adapting to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence in the news industry.
The forum opened with a panel discussion titled “Peacebuilding and Public Discourse Through the Media Lens,” moderated by AnewZ TV presenter Nadia Gyane. Speakers included Latifa Akharbach, President of Morocco’s High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), and Raushan Baltabayeva, Head of the Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan. They discussed the media’s role in encouraging dialogue, supporting public discourse, and contributing to peacebuilding.
According to the schedule, a one-on-one discussion titled “The Impact of Disinformation on Peace: Coordinated Media Responses” will feature Leon Cook, founder of the London-based strategic communications agency Atticus Partners. Moderated by AnewZ TV Editor-in-Chief Guy Shone, the session will examine how coordinated responses by news organizations and public institutions can help address the spread of disinformation.
The program will also include a side event titled “Media Horizon: AI, Visual Storytelling & Next-Gen Experiences,” focusing on the growing influence of artificial intelligence on storytelling, content production, and audience engagement.
In a panel titled “From Destruction to Renewal: Urban Narratives and Media Responsibility,” Anadolu Agency Vice President and Editor-in-Chief Yusuf Özhan and AnewZ TV Executive Director Rufat Hamzayev will discuss the media’s responsibility in reporting on post-conflict recovery and reconstruction. The session will be moderated by AnewZ TV Deputy Editor-in-Chief Orkhan Amashov.
Another panel, “The Role of Media Diplomacy and Media Literacy in Rebuilding Trust,” will bring together Zaid AlNawaiseh, Secretary General of Jordan’s Ministry of Government Communication, and Zhang Ling, Deputy Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. Moderated by AnewZ TV presenter Dilek Tuna, the discussion will focus on strengthening media literacy and international cooperation to rebuild public trust.
Parallel events will include the Executive Board Meeting of the Alliance of Turkic News Agencies, to be held jointly with AZERTAC, and a session on the future of the radio industry, which will explore artificial intelligence and emerging broadcasting formats.
Artificial intelligence will also be the focus of a one-on-one discussion titled “Social Media and Ethical Frameworks in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Seamus Clancy, LinkedIn’s Head of Public Sector and Nonprofit Sales for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, will discuss the ethical considerations surrounding AI-driven social media platforms. The session will be moderated by digital content creator Alisultan Sultanzade.
The forum will conclude with a discussion titled “Cross-Border Media Dialogue and Solidarity in the Digital Environment,” featuring Euronews CEO Claus Strunz and moderated by AnewZ TV journalist Katie Wilson. Participants will discuss international media cooperation and the importance of cross-border dialogue in an increasingly digital information environment.
