Dezeen Awards talk at Design Mumbai to explore rising global impact of Indian design

Dezeen has teamed up with Design Mumbai to host a panel discussion titled Designed in India, Made for the World, which will feature Dezeen Awards judges Arjun Malik, Disha Bhavsar and Sarah Sham.

Taking place at the Design Mumbai Exchange auditorium at 6:00pm on Thursday 7 November, the talk will explore the three leading Indian designers' work, which spans architecture, interiors and design.

Malik is principal architect at Malik Architecture and is a Dezeen Awards judge this year. Bhavsar, who judged Dezeen Awards last year, is co-founder of Quirk Studio, while Sham, who is principal designer at Essajees Atelier, will be a judge at next year's edition of Dezeen Awards.

The panellists will discuss what makes Indian design distinctive and relevant to people around the world, as well as their experience of gaining greater global influence. The talk will be moderated by Dezeen's co-CEO Benedict Hobson.

After the talk, guests are invited to join Dezeen and the speakers for a drinks reception at the Soho House Lounge at Design Mumbai.

Design Mumbai is a new trade show taking place at Jio World Garden in Mumbai from 6 to 9 November 2024. Dezeen is a media partner for the event.

It is a new venture by design and event specialists Ian Rudge, Michael Dynan and Piyush Suri, who established it with the aim of highlighting both established and emerging talent spanning the interior, architecture and design sectors.

Among the leading global brands participating in this year's event are Zaha Hadid Design, designer Michael Young and sculptor and ceramicist Naja Utzon Popov, while local participants include contemporary manufacturer Loco Design and textile studio INKA.

In addition to the Dezeen Awards talk, there are a variety of conversations with leading designers programmed over the course of the fair at the Design Mumbai Exchange auditorium.

Dezeen's editor-at-large Amy Frearson will be moderating a panel discussion about technology and craft at 1:00pm on Thursday 7 November, as well as hosting a conversation with designer Tej Chauhan at 12:00pm on Saturday 9 November.
