Chaos erupts at Timothée Chalamet's Marty Supreme pop-up store
by NOOR QURASHI, NEWS REPORTER · Mail OnlineChaos erupted on the opening day of Timothée Chalamet's Marty Supreme pop-up store as 'grown men' in tracksuits and puffer jackets pushed the metal railings to the floor as they waited in line to get their hands on limited edition items.
Alarming footage shows the moment security failed to contain the crowd in London yesterday morning with the young customers shoving each other and shouting 'ow!' while staff in high-vis vests watch on.
The temporary shop - which also opened in New York, Los Angeles and São Paulo - was launched ahead of Chalamet's new film, Marty Supreme.
Eager customers were out queuing in anticipation of the makeshift Holborn store for as long as 17 hours - but it soon became clear not all of them were superfans, with some simply more interested in bagging the one-of-a-kind jackets and sweatshirts.
A recording of the spectacle shows a number of young men dressed in dark clothing waiting in line to get their hands on the items.
At one point one jumps over the barriers while others push against the railings - causing someone to shout out in pain as a few of the culprits appear to laugh.
Security seemed helpless amid the carnage - though the faint sound of a whistle could be heard in the background - in what proved to be an vain attempt to bring about some order.
One person commented under the video, which was shared on X: 'It's grown men lining up for a timothee chalamet jacket, we are doomed.'
But the video creator, who was present at the event, responded: 'they didn't even know his name.'
A superfan lamented: 'They took all the jackets to sell them on ebay. They ran out the second I got there.'
Someone else said: 'This is not the demographic I expected.'
The video poster added: 'It was actually so crazy the entire morning these men are insane.'
According to GQ Magazine, police also made an appearance at the opening due to what one attendee described as 'lots of fights' and 'too many people'.
Stefania, 25, a photographer and filmmaker who runs the @yourboychalamet fan account, told the publication 'they are just here to resell' - in response to the first hundred or so people in line being all men with often large followings on TikTok and Instagram.
There was also reportedly a separate waiting area that emerged for women, girls and disabled people due to the main queue being 'unsafe'.
Chalamet had posted the time and location for the London event at 6pm on Friday night, triggering a number of posts from social media influencers.

The main item of interest was a £250 Marty Supreme-branded windbreaker with a white version for London that had the word 'England' on the back.
Many of the coveted jackets were snapped up and swiftly uploaded to eBay on sale for the likes of £1,200.
Chalamet made a surprise appearance at 2pm, causing many of his fans nearer to the back of the queue to run after him.
The clothing was made by the LA-based menswear brand Nahmias, with Marty Supreme - which stars Chalamet as an up-and-coming ping pong champion - set to hit the big screen on Christmas Day in the US and Boxing Day in the UK.
