Kate Winslet has revealed that she loves fans who recognise her from the iconic Christmas movie The Holiday.

The actress shared how much she enjoys it when mothers and daughters explain their Christmas traditions every year that revolve around the much loved movie.

Kate, 50, explained how fans will talk to her about The Holiday more than the film which launched her fame, Titanic.

She had not expected the mother and daughter bond to be so strong through the film, she said: 'What's so lovely is that mothers and daughters come up to me in the grocery store and they say, 'Oh, Kate, we just love The Holiday, it's our little ritual at Christmas.

'They have things that they eat every year. They sit down to watch it. It's a tradition and I just love that.'

Kate also said she's more likely to be stopped by fans of the Ricky Gervais TV series Extras, due to her guest appearance in one of the episodes in 2005.

Kate shot to stardom at the tender age of 22 when she and Leonardo DiCaprio played Rose and Jack in the 1997 box office sensation Titanic.

She told the How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast: 'It was a really rough introduction to what it was like to be famous, and it put the fear of God in me

'I remember thinking, 'I do not want to be famous. This is terrible. This is absolutely awful'.

'After Titanic, I was actively making choices to do the smallest possible work things I could find, while I was still learning who I was, learning how to act.

'I needed the space to just figure out who I was as a performer and not to feel pressured into saying yes to things just because there might have been a large salary attached to it.

'Fortunately for me, I've never been motivated by finances.'

Next month, Kate will be celebrating her directional debut with the release of a brand new Christmas film Goodbye June.

The Netflix movie will follow four siblings as they support their mother whilst she battles declining health.

The phenomenal cast includes Kate herself, Toni Collette, Timothy Spall and Helen Mirren.

Netflix explained: 'The film takes place just before Christmas, when an unexpected turn in their mother's health thrusts four adult siblings and their exasperating father into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss.

'But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms - with biting humour, blunt honesty, and a lot of love.

Following the release of the trailer last week, fans praised: 'I'm already bawling my eyes out and this is just the trailer… ';

'This looks really good! One of the best lines in this trailer in my opinion: 'If there are any heavens, my mother will, all by herself, have one!''

The Holiday was released in 2006 and was an immediate hit grossing over £150 million worldwide.

The fantastic cast including Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black created amazing chemistry on set.

In 2022 there were multiple rumours of a sequel however Kate put those to rest after an interview with People, she said: 'I read something about that, but it's the first I've heard of it.

'I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that's never come up.'

The original movie, written and directed by Meyers, told the tale of Surrey-based journalist Iris who swaps homes with Amanda (Cameron), a movie trailer producer from Hollywood, following respective heartbreaks

Writer and director Nancy Meyers also took to Instagram to debunk rumours of a sequel, writing:  So many DM's about this - sorry but it's not true.'

The film ends with both couples celebrating the New Year alongside Graham's two daughters.

Many fans resonate with the film because of the realistic heartbreak shown throughout.

Each character is battling their own challenges, such as single parenting, adultery and loveliness.

Kate also agreed with this and stated: 'it's about men and women's struggle with their emotions and heartbreak and looking for The One.

'We're all doing that at some point in our lives.

'It can be very, very hard to find that special person in the struggle that you go through emotionally, and trying to find that person is something that will always be fascinating to audiences.'
