AMANDA PLATELL: Why I'll never forgive Meghan for harming the Royals
by AMANDA PLATELL, DAILY MAIL COLUMNIST · Mail OnlineLoose Women panellist Charlene White has called for an end to attacks on the Duchess of Sussex, calling out ‘the public sport of tearing Meghan down’.
‘I just can’t get my head around people getting so deep and meaningful and also hateful about someone they’ve never met,’ she said.
Which made me wonder what planet Ms White, 45, has been living on since Meghan arrived and launched a ballistic missile at the heart of the Royal Family.
We may not have ‘met’ Meghan, but we didn’t need to because she has spoken for herself.
Not least in her vicious Oprah interview when she accused certain royals of being racist.
We got to know her, too, in that Netflix documentary when she insulted the Queen by showing off with a mock curtsey.
When royal biographer Hugo Vickers wrote in his book Queen Elizabeth II – serialised in the Daily Mail last week – that ‘the distress Harry and Meghan caused the Queen in her last years cannot be overstated’, he was not ‘tearing Meghan down’.
He was documenting impeccably sourced facts. Just as the Daily Mail’s esteemed royal author Robert Hardman is in today’s paper, with his new book, where he reveals the extraordinary demands made by Meghan and Harry in so-called Tiara-gate before their wedding.
It cannot even be imagined how much pain Harry’s and Meghan’s departure from Britain’s shores caused the royals and the Queen in her twilight years
The idea that the duchess should be above criticism after all this is beyond preposterous.
Particularly as it’s Meghan who so often seems to have indulged in her own sport of tearing the monarchy down.
It’s difficult to be outraged by Fifa charging £8,333 for World Cup final tickets. What sane Three Lions fan would fork out anyway, knowing our chances of getting to the final after being beaten by Japan this week are as likely as, not so much pigs, but lions flying?
A proper Charlie
We all cheered after learning that cling-ons Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice would not be present at royal Easter ‘with the agreement and understanding of the King’. But now they’ve been invited by Charles to Royal Ascot in June.
When will our monarch realise every public appearance by this privileged pair, who along with their mother Fergie stayed at Jeffrey Epstein’s New York mansion even after he was convicted, is a body blow to every one of his victims?
A pity BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty, who has faced a formal investigation for bullying, couldn’t wave off the Beeb’s adored weather girl, Carol Kirkwood, 63, with a kind word. Instead she quipped (we assume): ‘I’m just waiting for the countdown for you to go!’ Maybe it was in jest, but with her own career under scrutiny, perhaps she’d best remember no one likes a mean girl.
We'll all be mooning over Reid
As four astronauts headed for the moon on the Orion spacecraft, we wondered which one will inspire the next Buzz Lightyear franchise (now worth $21billion) after Buzz Aldrin, the second man to stand on the moon in 1969.
Surely it’s got to be the hot Commander Reid Wiseman. He has the requisite chiselled jaw, although admittedly ‘Reid Lightyear’ isn’t exactly going to inspire to infinity and beyond, nor have the same, er, buzz to it.
Has our beloved Claudia Winkleman been thrown under a bus with her new chat show in Graham Norton’s old Friday night slot? The moment she interviewed Lisa Kudrow – who played Phoebe in Friends – and asked all the ‘Phoebes’ planted in the audience to stand up was excruciatingly awful TV.
And why, when Claudia and Graham have the same talent agency picking guests, does she get Lisa – when Graham would have got Jennifer Aniston?
Florence looks fab
Dune actress Florence Pugh looked sensational at a Bulgari jewellery event in Milan, oozing old-fashioned glamour as she showed off her hourglass figure. How refreshing to see an actress who’s clearly not a victim of the Mounjaro madness gripping Hollywood, with her plump arms, a bosom she hadn’t bought and a glimpse of that curvaceous leg rather than a hockey stick emerging from her split dress.
After the success of the saccharine Love Story on Disney+ about John F Kennedy Jnr and his wife, style icon Carolyn Bessette, M&S have launched a collection featuring her favourite clothes such as loafers, white shirts and trench coats. Jolly good, as long as it doesn’t turn you into the woman who isn’t shown on the series but has been revealed as a violent, serially cheating, paranoid cokehead.

AMANDA PLATELL: Harry's latest desperate plea is SO see-through... I know what's behind it
At last Rachel Reeves has someone apart from the Tories to blame for the looming recession and bills going up. It’s because of Trump’s Iran War. Nothing to do with her hike in employers’ National Insurance contributions destroying businesses, or her decision to push up benefits and the minimum wage above inflation long before Trump dropped a single bomb on Tehran.
The PM says Trump’s threat to leave Nato is good news for a closer relationship with the EU. Does this ninny not realise the US contributes 60 per cent of Nato’s total defence spending (compared to our 6 per cent)?
Sadiq Khan orders ambassadors abroad to challenge the narrative of London being unsafe. What about the scenes in south London this week Mr Mayor, when violent youngsters invaded an M&S store, looting it and terrifying customers? Scenes which led the retailer’s director to accuse Khan of failing to prioritise effective policing.
National treasure Susan Boyle celebrates her 65th birthday by going blonde and rebranding herself as an influencer, even launching her own affordable clothing range. Much as we love her, I think I’ll pass on this combo of candy-pink jacket over her babydoll lace dress.
In the long court case between actress Blake Lively and her co-star Justin Baldoni, the judge has kicked out ten of her 13 claims including those accusing him of fat-shaming her, of defamation and of sexual harassment on set where she claimed he ‘kissed her during a scene when it wasn’t called for’.
With her reputation in the lavatory, it looks increasingly as if the It Ends With Us star’s career ended with that movie.
Not a fairway to treat Tiger
How can it be right Florida police released the video of a clearly emotionally distraught and out of his head Tiger Woods after his car crash and arrest? What purpose does it serve? At least when Hugh Grant was caught with an LA hooker, cops gave him the dignity of releasing only a police mug shot.
