Russell Brand has been charged with further offenses, including rape and sexual assault, involving two additional women on top of what he has already been accused of doing — deepening a case that has already shaken both the entertainment world and the many fans who once saw him as untouchable.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed to several UK media outlets on Tuesday that prosecutors have authorized new charges against the 50-year-old comedian and actor. According to authorities, the latest allegations include one count of rape and one count of sexual assault connected to two women.
Of course, these are in addition to the existing charges Brand is already facing, which relate to four alleged victims and span incidents said to have taken place between 1999 and 2005 in both Bournemouth and London.
Brand is now due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20 in relation to these newly authorized offenses. It’s another sobering step in a legal process that is far from over, and one that continues to center the experiences of the women who have come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi, who is leading the investigation for the Met, addressed the situation directly in a statement the media. In it, he emphasized the ongoing support for those involved:
“The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.”
And while he didn’t share any further details about where these allegations come from (or when), Farooqi made it clear that the investigation remains active and authorities believe there may be more information to uncover. He said:
“The Met’s investigation remains ongoing, and detectives urge anyone affected by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with police.”
The police leader also pointed to specific avenues for support and contact, underlining that help is available:
“A dedicated team of investigators can be reached via email at CIT@met.police.uk. Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis by contacting the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”
As it stands, Brand pleaded not guilty to earlier charges, which include two counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. A trial is scheduled to begin on June 3, 2026 on the matter.
The investigation itself began in September 2023, following a joint exposé by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches.
In response to the initial charges, Brand publicly denied the allegations, telling his millions of followers that he was “never a rapist” and insisting he never engaged in non-consensual activity.
Once a fixture of Hollywood comedy films and British entertainment projects, Brand later reinvented himself as a political podcaster. He also shares three children with his wife, Laura Gallacher — and of course, he was previously married to Katy Perry.
