Wizkid becomes first African artiste to surpass 11b Spotify streams

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has officially made history as the first African artist to surpass 11 billion total streams on Spotify across all credits.

The milestone by the decorated Nigerian Afrobeats singer was announced on Tuesday by music data handle: Chart Africa, on X.

The platform stated that Wizkid is the first African artist ever to cross the 11 billion benchmark on the streaming service.

“Wizkid becomes the first African artist EVER to cross 11 Billion Spotify streams across all credits,” the post reads.

The push to 11 billion follows the release of his single, State of Mind with DJ Tunez.

Released on May 15, 2026, the track recorded over 685,000 global streams on Spotify within its first full day.
