The designer addressed the criticism in a Snapchat video on Sunday after a social media user questioned if her husband had an independent identity or if she had turned him into a “handbag”.
In the viral video reply, Veekee James embraced the comment with wit, emphasizing that they intentionally choose to blend their lives completely.
The fashion entrepreneur described their closeness as a deliberate choice, noting that both she and her husband consider their lives deeply connected.
“Yes, my husband does not have a life of his own. His life is my life, the same way I don’t have a life of my own”.
Using the image of a padlock and key, she further illustrated how closely she believes the couple are connected.
“My life is his life. He is me and I am him. Together we are like padlock and key”.

Veekee James also took aim at those who believe married couples should maintain separate lifestyles, suggesting that such opinions stem from a misunderstanding of what marriage entails.
“When you marry your own, separate him. When you marry your own, remove him from your life and keep him somewhere else. You don’t know what marriage is”.
According to her, the partnership extends to virtually every part of their lives, with each spouse considering the other an integral part of who they are.
“His life is mine, my life is his. Everything he is, is mine”.
She further indicated that the public should expect to see more of the couple together, regardless of the reactions their frequent appearances may attract.
“You’ve not seen anything. You will see me and my husband anywhere possible, everywhere possible, you will see us”.
Veekee concluded the video with humour, affectionately referring to Atere as her “personal handbag” while showcasing moments of the couple together.
