Halilu Maccido, son of the late 19th Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Muhammad Maccido, has paid tribute to his father, describing him as a devoted parent, respected traditional ruler and statesman whose legacy of humility, service and peace continues to inspire generations.

Halilu paid the tribute to mark the 20th anniversary of his father’s death in the ill-fated ADC Airlines crash on October 29, 2006.

Reflecting on the two decades since the tragedy, he said the late Sultan remained a source of inspiration to his family and a symbol of dignity, unity and service to the nation.

He recalled his father’s role as a loving parent whose wisdom, guidance and prayers continued to provide strength to his children, describing his leadership as one built on faith, humility and commitment to the welfare of others.

According to Halilu, his father’s influence extended beyond the Sultanate, as he was widely regarded as a figure who promoted peace, justice and mutual understanding.

He said the late Sultan’s life demonstrated that true greatness was measured not by the position a person occupied but by the lives touched, values upheld and positive contributions made to society.

“Baba, twenty years without you have taught us that while a father may depart this world, his influence never dies,” he said in the tribute.

The son prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for the late Sultan, asking that his grave be illuminated, his good deeds rewarded and his final abode be Jannatul Firdaus al-A’la.

He also prayed that Allah accept his father’s service to humanity as Sadaqatul Jariyah and reunite the family with him in Jannah.

“Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered,” Halilu wrote, reaffirming that his father’s memory remained a blessing and his legacy an enduring source of inspiration.

He concluded by describing the late Sultan as a father whose place in the hearts of his family could never be replaced and whose noble legacy would continue through them and the many lives he touched.
