Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, are expected to headline the exclusive private screening of On Different Grounds in Lagos on May 9.

The high-profile event will take place at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island as part of activities leading to the film’s industry premiere and nationwide cinema release.

According to the organisers, the screening is designed as a cultural diplomacy gathering bringing together traditional rulers, government officials, diplomats and industry leaders through cinema and dialogue.

The event will hold under the royal presence of Ogiame Atuwatse III, while Sanwo-Olu is expected to attend as Special Guest and keynote speaker.

Former Minister Frank Nweke Jr. is also listed among expected guests alongside representatives of the Consulate of India, the British Deputy High Commission, the Deputy High Commission of Canada and the Indian Cultural Association of Nigeria.

Organisers said the event aims to position storytelling as a tool for cultural exchange and international collaboration.

The evening will feature cultural performances from 121 Selah, OB Nelson, an Indian cultural presentation and an Itsekiri dance troupe.

The performances are expected to reflect themes explored in the film, including identity, heritage and cultural intersection.

On Different Grounds follows the story of a divorced couple brought back together during their daughter’s wedding after an unexpected plan changes the course of events.

The film combines humour, family conflict and cultural tension within a contemporary African setting.

Its Producer and executive producer, Nicolette Ndigwe-Kalu, said the project extends beyond entertainment.

“This event is not just about cinema. It is about using storytelling as a bridge between cultures, generations, and institutions,” she said.

Organisers described the screening as part of a broader conversation around film as a form of soft power and cultural influence.

The event, themed The Soft Power of Story: “Advancing Cultural Diplomacy and International Collaboration Through Cinema,” will serve as a pre-release activation ahead of the film’s industry premiere on June 7 and cinema release on June 12.

On Different Grounds was produced by HB&Q Impressions Studios in collaboration with Serengeti Network and will be distributed nationwide by Cinemax.
