There are fewer faces in the U.S. technology sector more infamous than Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced founder of biotech firm Theranos. The company outright lied about creating supposed advancements in blood testing technology. That fraud slowly came to light until Holmes was charged with fraud in 2018, for which she was later convicted and is currently serving over 11 years in prison.

Before her imprisonment, Holmes invited a documentary crew — led by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim — to film her last days as a free woman. That has now been released into the world as "You Can See Everything," which explores not only Elizabeth Holmes but also her partner Billy Evans (who makes for one of 2026's best film villains).

The Theranos saga was previously dramatized in the 2022 Hulu min-series, "The Dropout," starring Amanda Seyfried as Holmes. Indeed, "The Dropout" actually figures into "You Can See Everything" in some surprising and mind-bending ways. If you've seen the movie, you know what we're talking about. If you haven't, we won't spoil it here, but know the miniseries will be a strong companion piece, if not outright essential, to "You Can See Everything."

If you've seen "You Can See Everything" and had your interest piqued, you're in luck: "The Dropout" is streaming on Hulu as well as Disney+.

A Hulu original, The Dropout remains streaming on the platform

"The Dropout" is based on an ABC News podcast of the same name, which pulled back the curtain on the Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos saga. The title, of course, comes from Holmes having dropped out of Stanford University to pursue business. (The college dropout backstory is almost a requirement for a tech mogul: see Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, etc.)

Who created "The Dropout"? None other than Elizabeth Meriwether, most famous as the creator of sitcom "New Girl." But Meriwether's pivot to the dramatic worked out well. "The Dropout" earned positive reviews, including from /Film, with Amanda Seyfried's uncanny performance as Holmes being especially praised.

Speaking to /Film about making "The Dropout" in 2022, Meriwether drew a line between her story and that of journalists and documentarians:

"I went into it knowing that I'm not a reporter. As a dramatist, my role is not to present facts to people. My role is to do a lot of research and then try to tell the emotional, human version of the story as best as I can and just use my imagination to think about like, 'Well, what are these characters thinking and feeling in this moment?'"

"The Dropout" was the beginning of a prosperous creative relationship for Meriwether and Hulu. She has since developed two more women-led drama series. One, "Dying for Sex," starring Michelle Williams as a terminally ill woman seeking all the orgasmic pleasure she's never had. Two, acclaimed crime thriller "Furious," about an FBI agent (Emmy Rossum) tracking a sex trafficking victim turned serial killer (Lola Petticrew). "Furious," already renewed for Season 2, is one of the best TV shows of 2026.

Like "The Dropout," "Dying for Sex" and "Furious" are streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
