Greek singer Nikos Oikonomopoulos has postponed his scheduled concert at Petra Theatre following the sudden death of fellow singer and friend Giorgos Mazonakis.
The death of Mazonakis has plunged Greece’s music and entertainment industry into mourning, with numerous colleagues and friends expressing their grief.
Oikonomopoulos announced the postponement in an emotional Instagram Story, informing fans that his planned performance would no longer take place as scheduled.
‘The sudden loss of my dear friend and colleague’
Oikonomopoulos said the concert at Petra Theatre has been rescheduled for Friday, September 25.
“With a heavy heart, I inform you that tomorrow’s concert at the Petra Theatre is postponed to Friday, September 25,” he wrote.
He then addressed the devastating loss of Mazonakis, describing him as a dear friend and colleague.
“The sudden loss of my dear friend and colleague, Giorgos Mazonakis, finds us all in deep mourning,” Oikonomopoulos wrote.
Tickets remain valid for September 25
Oikonomopoulos also apologised to fans who had already purchased tickets and were looking forward to the concert.
“I apologise for the inconvenience, knowing how much you have been waiting for this evening,” he said.
All tickets purchased for the original performance will remain valid for the rescheduled concert on September 25.
The postponement comes as Greece’s artistic community continues to mourn Mazonakis, whose sudden death has triggered an outpouring of grief from fellow singers, performers, friends and fans.
