Archbishop Makarios of Australia has urged the faithful not to hurry God because they are afraid of their own clock, in a message posted on Instagram.

He said trust means accepting God’s timing even when it does not match what we want. Some things, he said, arrive late because we are not yet ready to hold them. “Some delays are not refusals. They are preparation.”

In the video he argued that people often pray to be led while already pointing out the road. “We say with our words, ‘Thy will be done,’ but we want His will to look like ours.” Real trust, he said, begins with a different prayer: this is what I want, this is what my heart longs for, but more than that I want Your will in my life. Only when we stop asking God to follow our plan, he said, do we start to see His.

Patience, in his account, is not sitting still and waiting for circumstances to change. It is believing before there is a result, praying before there is an answer, and walking without knowing exactly where the road goes.

“Do not rush God’s time because we fear our own,” he said. “There are things that, if they come earlier, we may not yet know how to hold. That is why some delays are not refusals. They are preparation.”
