A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Türkiye on Thursday morning, with the shallow tremor recorded in the Şanlıurfa area.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the earthquake occurred at approximately 07:40 GMT at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 miles).

The relatively shallow depth means the earthquake may have been felt across parts of the surrounding region.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage following the tremor.

Seismological authorities continue to monitor the region for possible aftershocks and further seismic activity.
