A large and intense wildfire is currently raging in the area of Porto Germeno, with flames surrounding the settlement overnight and reaching the sea. The first houses have already been destroyed, with damage described as incalculable.

At first light, aerial firefighting vehicles began operating over the area. The fire is advancing on multiple fronts — one towards Alepochori and another towards Vilia.

Evacuations Underway

Shortly after 4 a.m., the settlements of Agia Paraskevi, Agios Nektarios and Kryo Pigadi were evacuated. Residents in Psatha also received a 112 emergency message instructing them to move towards Alepochori and Megara.

According to Coast Guard spokesman Theofanis Balatsoukas, coast guard vessels, assisted by the Fire Service, safely evacuated 12 people from Porto Germeno this morning. They are being transferred to Alepochori.

Yesterday, 254 residents and vacationers were evacuated by sea from the beach of Agios Vasilios. Police forces remain in the wider area managing traffic and assisting with the movement of residents.

The Mayor of Megara described the front as “very large” and stated that preparations are underway to open spaces in Megara for those currently in Alepochori if further evacuation becomes necessary.

Other Active Fires

  • In Aigio, the fire has intensified in the areas of Panorama and Neratzies. Shortly after 1 a.m., 112 messages were sent instructing residents of Neo Erineo to head towards the Athens-Patras National Road, and residents of Arravonitsa to move towards Selianitika via the 28th Provincial Road.
  • In southern Rethymno, Crete, the fire remains active with ongoing fronts in the wider Preveli area.

Firefighting efforts continue as authorities monitor the evolving situation across multiple regions.
