A safe seized from the Voula home of late Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis has been opened by authorities and found to be completely empty.
The safe became part of the investigation following Mazonakis’ death at a medical clinic on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki.
Authorities seized the safe amid speculation over what it might contain. However, when it was opened in the presence of Mazonakis’ lawyer, nothing was found inside.
The singer’s lawyer had previously described the seizure as an unnecessary procedural step, but said they agreed to it in order to put an end to speculation surrounding the contents of the safe.
“It was confirmed that it was absolutely empty,” the lawyer said.
The development comes as investigators continue examining a series of issues surrounding Mazonakis’ death and the circumstances leading up to it.
The investigation has already included the examination of evidence from locations connected to the case, while authorities continue to seek information that could clarify what happened in the final hours of the singer’s life.
The opening of the safe effectively removes one source of speculation from the investigation, with authorities confirming that it contained no cash, documents or other items.
Further investigative actions are expected as authorities continue examining the evidence surrounding the death of the 54 year old singer.
