Greek singer Antonis Remos says his upcoming 30th anniversary concert in Thessaloniki will deliver a message of unity, as preparations continue for the major event on Saturday, September 12.

“For me, it will be the most beautiful night of my career, but I believe it will also be one of the most beautiful nights for audiences not only in Thessaloniki or Greece, but across Europe,” Remos said during a press conference at the café of the Royal Theatre in Thessaloniki.

“I want to send a message: let’s stop looking for what divides us and find what unites us,” he added.

The concert will take place at Thessaloniki’s New Waterfront, with the construction of a huge stage in front of the statue of Alexander the Great having sparked reactions.

Remos said the last thing he wanted was to create “a climate of division.”

“I wanted to come to the city with a big smile and great anticipation. However, I also came with a slightly heavy heart because it saddens me to feel that there are opinions being expressed without people seeing what we have prepared,” he said.

“I am from Thessaloniki and I am very happy to be Macedonian,” Remos added.

Remos Says Relations with Thessaloniki Mayor Remain Strong

Asked about his relationship with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and Mayor Stelios Angeloudis following the approval of the concert and the subsequent reactions, Remos said their relationship had not deteriorated.

“Our relationship has not cooled. I appreciate the mayor and his colleagues,” he said.

Remos suggested that there may have been “a rushed reaction” but said the controversy had strengthened their determination to show that Thessaloniki could host major international events.

“For a global name to come, they must first see that it is a vibrant city that can support large-scale events,” he said.

Ronaldinho to Sing, Play Percussion and Dance the Zorba

Remos will share the stage with a long list of Greek and international performers, including Mando, Kaiti Garbi, Giorgos Theofanous, the Gipsy Kings, Snap!, Mr. President, Kostas Hatzis, Manos Pyrovolakis, Željko Joksimović and Despina Vandi.

Former Brazilian football star Ronaldinho will also join the concert.

One of the world’s greatest footballers will sing and play percussion alongside Remos.

“What else do you want me to bring?” Remos joked.

The concert will mark Ronaldinho’s first visit to Thessaloniki. Remos said the former football star would “enjoy every moment” in front of the city’s audience.

He also revealed that the pair will sing together, play percussion and dance the Zorba.

1,200 Drones and Fireworks to Feature in Concert

The event will also feature a fireworks show over the city, while 1,200 drones will add another visual element to the spectacle.

Organisers will install 10 giant screens and 30 cameras across the city so people can watch the concert and participate from different locations.

The organisers will also provide special accessibility arrangements for people with disabilities.

Television and radio presenter Grigoris Arnaoutoglou will host the concert.

Around 1,000 people are working on preparations for the event, while another 1,000 musicians and performers will take part in the concert.
