Stephanopoulos thanked his colleagues and reflected on his career at Good Morning America, where he has worked alongside Roberts, 65, and Strahan, 54.

“This is one of those never could’ve imagined moments,” he said during the ceremony.

He described the opportunity to cover major events, interview influential people and connect with viewers across the United States each morning as a privilege.

“The chance to cover the biggest, most consequential stories of our time, to interview the most interesting and inspiring people of our time, to be able to say good morning to the entire country every morning,” he said.

He added that helping viewers begin their day with information, advice and a smile was “a great gift”.

Stephanopoulos joined ABC News in 1996 after serving as an adviser to former US President Bill Clinton during Clinton’s first term. He has co-anchored Good Morning America since 2009.

He generally keeps his daughters out of the public spotlight but occasionally shares family milestones on social media.
