The new season of The Voice will open with an emotional tribute to the late Giorgos Mazonakis, with the premiere dedicated entirely to the singer and his music.

The episode, which airs Saturday at 9:00 PM on SKAI, brings together the show’s coaches and several artists who shared personal or professional connections with Mazonakis.

Elena Paparizou, Panos Mouzourakis, and Giorgos Lianos took part in the tribute, alongside Stelios Dionysiou, Katerina Stanisi, Pitsa Papadopoulou, Nikos Vourliotis and APON.

The coaches were visibly moved as they reflected on Mazonakis’ career, personality and the impact of his music.

Paparizou said the episode had a single focus: Mazonakis and the music he left behind.

“Today this show is just for George. Let’s honour him and show him how much he touched us, because he spoke his truth through his songs,” she said.

She also spoke about the bonds formed between people, noting that the length of a relationship does not necessarily determine its depth.

“We lived very great moments together with George. Some of us have known each other for more years, some for less. It doesn’t matter how many years you’ve known a person. It’s how you bond that matters.”

For Mastoras, appearing in the tribute was particularly difficult. He described Mazonakis’ absence as a silence that could only partly be filled through his music.

“We came here tonight to fill these silences that are very difficult, because for me personally they remind me of his absence. By filling them with his music, we also give meaning to all that we are experiencing, which is a mourning,” he said.

Mastoras ended with a simple farewell to his fellow artist: “We will miss you. We already miss you.”

Paparizou also reflected on Mazonakis’ love of life and said she believed he still had much more to give.

“George loved life very much. He had more to give. It was not his time to leave,” she said.

She added that some of Mazonakis’ songs now carry an added emotional weight following his death.

“He always chose to sing his songs with his own truth, what he felt inside. But after he left, some lyrics from songwriters and creators have taken on a second meaning from the loss,” she said.

Paparizou closed her tribute with a final farewell: “I wish him a safe journey and when the time comes we will meet again.”

The episode will also feature performances and tributes from artists connected to Mazonakis’ career, creating a night centred on his music and the mark he left on Greek popular culture.
