Giorgos Mazonakis Funeral Set for Monday
by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesThe funeral of popular Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis will take place on Monday, 14 September, at the Church of Agia Triada in Nikaia.
Mazonakis, who died after suffering cardiac arrest at a private clinic in Kolonaki on Wednesday, 9 September, will be buried at the Third Cemetery of Athens.
The singer’s family lawyer, Charalambos Lykoudis, confirmed that the funeral will take place on Monday, 14 September. The ceremony is expected to begin at 1pm, although the family will officially confirm the time in a forthcoming announcement.
The delay in holding the funeral followed the initial postponement of the post-mortem examination of the singer’s body. Mazonakis’ relatives also wanted to appoint a technical adviser to attend and monitor the procedure.
Mazonakis was born in Nikaia, a working-class neighbourhood he proudly called home and frequently referenced in his songs.
