Giorgos Mazonakis’ parents have spoken publicly for the first time since their son’s death, thanking the singer’s fans for their continued support and describing their grief as unbearable.
Twenty-one days after the death of the popular Greek singer, his parents said they were following developments surrounding the case but had no strength to speak publicly about their loss.
Speaking briefly to Greek television channel Star, they thanked the public for the love and support shown to their family.
“We thank everyone for their interest. We are devastated. We are following all the developments, everything. There are no words, what can we say? We have no strength for words. We are in pain for our child, for our beloved one,” they said.
The couple also said they were deeply moved by the continuing affection that fans have shown towards their son.
“We are moved by the enormous love of the people for our Giorgos,” they added.
Family remains in contact with lawyer
Mazonakis’ parents remain in close contact with their lawyer, Charalambos Lykoudis.
Lykoudis has said that the family will take legal action against people who make false claims about the case, warning that anyone who spreads false information could face a lawsuit.
What will happen to Mazonakis’ home in Voula?
Meanwhile, reports that Mazonakis’ home in Voula could become a museum dedicated to the singer have been dismissed.
According to Star’s report, the property did not belong to Mazonakis. He rented the house, where some of his personal belongings remain.
The family and his representatives are expected to decide what happens to those belongings at a later stage.
“It is very early because his people are grieving,” Star journalist Anna Stamat iadou said.
She added that the singer’s relatives and friends would ensure that his memory remains alive.
“What is certain is that his relatives and friends will not allow the memory of Giorgos Mazonakis to be forgotten.”
