Ismail Darbar On ‘Main Pyaar Hoon Tera’: “I Had To Become The Voice Of My Own Emotion”

Ismail Darbar is known for creating music that connects deeply with emotions, and with his latest song ‘Main Pyaar Hoon Tera’, the veteran composer takes on a new role by lending his own voice to the composition. Talking about what made the song special, Ismail Darbar says that honesty was at the heart of his approach.

“For me, the most important thing was honesty. When you sing a song yourself, you cannot hide behind technique. I wanted my voice to carry the emotion of the words - love, vulnerability and that feeling of surrender that comes when you truly love someone. I wanted people to feel the emotion before they even think about the music,” he shares.

Reflecting on the experience of singing his own composition, Ismail Darbar says it brought a completely different kind of responsibility. Having spent years expressing emotions through other singers, this time he had to personally become the voice behind his own musical expression.

“As a composer, I have always been used to expressing my emotions through other singers. But this time, I had to become the voice of my own emotion. That makes the experience very personal. There is a different kind of responsibility when you are singing your own composition because every word and every note comes directly from you. It was a new experience for me, and one that I will always cherish,” he says.

Ismail Darbar also credits his son Zaid Darbar for bringing a contemporary creative perspective to the project. He describes Zaid’s contribution as one that went beyond their relationship as father and son.

“Zaid brings a very different energy to my music. He understands the emotion, but he also understands how today’s audience consumes music. His contribution was not just as a son, but as a creative who has his own vision. He helped shape the project, gave it a fresh perspective and brought a lot of sincerity to the entire process. I am very happy to see him grow and create alongside me.”
