Mysuru Dasara Visual Artists Association formed

Mysuru: Mysuru Dasara Visual Artists Association has been formed for the welfare of the visuals artists in Mysuru district, said Association President Prakash Chikkapalya, here recently.

Speaking after releasing the logo of the Association at Pathrakarthara Bhavan, he said that the Association had been formed to fight against the injustice meted out against the local artists especially during Dasara celebrations.

“For the past two years, local artists have been denied opportunities during Dasara. The tenders are being awarded to people who have no experience in visuals arts industry, which has denied opportunities to the local artists,” he added.

Artists involved in painting and sculpting have been involved in creating tableaux and stalls of various departments at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds. However, in the recent years, private event management agencies, political party workers have been getting works through influence. There are more than 1,500 artists who have been affected, said Prakash.

“The matter has been brought to the notice of the District Minister and the Deputy Commissioner (DC). A memorandum will also be submitted to the Chief Minister,” he added.

Prakash also mentioned that the artists will not get involved in any of the Dasara works on tenders being awarded to others.

Akmal Pasha, Deviprasad Shetty, Ranganath Kirikiri, Gopalkrishna, N.S. Ramesh and Akshay Kumar were present on the occasion.
