Brigitte Bardot: A Life in Pictures

Brigitte Bardot, the French actress and animal rights campaigner whose death was announced on Sunday, was a creature of the still image as well as the moving one. And like many female stars over the decades, she was both a master and a victim of the photographer’s gaze. She used the camera’s lens to project her personality, just as it fixed her in the public imagination.
