Inside Northumberland's new Thai and Vietnamese restaurant with full flavours and simple menu

There’s a new restaurant to go to in Amble for North East locals who love a taste of Asian flavours. Lotus and Lemongrass, recently refurbished from what was previously Gracy’s, has brought the flavours of Thailand and Vietnam to locals and is a must go for anyone nearby.

Owner Thomas McBrearty, previously lived in Thailand for ten years teaching and on coming home wanted to bring a taste of the food culture over to those back home in the North East. Thomas said: “Having spent a decade living in Asia, I’m so excited to bring the real authentic flavours I fell in love with home to Amble.”

What started as a once a week treat for café goers, has now become the newest offer on Amble’s High Street with the full support of local businesses nearby. ChronicleLive was lucky enough to join in the support on the restaurant’s soft launch before their doors opened to the public last month.

The restaurant has a cosy and calming atmosphere, filled with soft music and deep blues that set up the experience before you even smell the food. With the open kitchen, guests get a front row seat to the full flavours and simple meals that are prepared by chefs moon and Anna.

The restaurant has a set menu, where guests can get a full experience of flavours and change monthly so that guests can try a range of dishes each visit. Thomas said: “With two incredibly talented chefs, each bringing their own distinct style to the kitchen, we’re offering our guests a truly unique monthly dining experience.”

And after trying some of the dishes ourselves, we can confirm it’s well worth the trip. We tried fresh prawn spring rolls, red Thai curry, fried spring rolls and chicken skewers all of which were beautifully balanced and full of flavour, we were sad to leave when we had to.

The Lotus and Lemongrass is more than food, it’s a full experience with cards provided with basic Thai and Vietnamese greetings and key words for staples on the menu rounding out a trip as more than just flavourful food.
