26 pictures of the Active Sunderland BIG Walk at Herrington Country Park
by Emily Gray · ChronicleLiveHundreds of people took part in the Active Sunderland BIG Walk at Herrington Country Park today, Sunday September 27.
The event saw people of all ages set off on one of four different route options, from a three mile circular route around the park, to a challenging 13 and a half mile route that takes in the surrounding countryside and woodland.
Councillor Jonathon Emerson, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Services, at Sunderland City Council said: “I’d like to say a big well done to everyone who took part in the Active Sunderland BIG Walk this year.
“I have enjoyed the walk myself and I hope everyone who took part today has enjoyed this brilliant community event and the chance to take in Sunderland's beautiful countryside while spending quality time outdoors.”
Walking is one of the easiest ways to get moving, it’s a great way to improve your health and every step counts towards improving fitness, reducing stress, increasing energy levels and providing a great opportunity to spend time outdoors.
If you’re interested in taking part in regular organised walks, a friendly programme of weekly volunteer-led walks are on offer through Active Sunderland Wellness Walking Programme.
