by · ChronicleLive

The countdown to the 2024 North East Culture Awards can begin as we reveal the shortlists across 12 categories.

Hundreds of nominations were submitted for the 2024 Culture Awards in categories including Performer of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Visual Artist of the Year. The quality was high and the impressive level of entries meant there was much debate at an intense session for the panel of judges drawn from arts and culture organisations across the region.

The winners of this year’s awards, held in partnership with Sunderland City Council and the University of Sunderland, will be revealed on November 28 during a ceremony hosted by Chris Connel at The Fire Station in Sunderland, the second year the Awards have been held at the venue.

Last year’s winners included Alphabetti Theatre, the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival and Dave Johns. As well as prizes in 12 categories, there will also be an award made on the night for outstanding contribution to the North East cultural community, in partnership with Durham County Council.

Full details of the awards - including how to buy tickets - can be found at necultureawards.com, while details of entertainment on the night will be revealed in due course.
