Film crew takes over Lit & Phil in Newcastle for movie adaptation of Virginia Woolf novel Night and Day

The Lit & Phil on Westgate Road was a buzz of activity today as filming started in the area for the film Night and Day, an adaptation of the Virginia Woolf comedy.

Directed by BAFTA nominee Tina Gharavi, the film stars singer Lily Allen, as well as Auf Wiedersehen, Pet actor Timothy Spall.

The film is an adaptation of Woolf's comedic novel, revolving around the daily lives and romances of two women. Katharine Hilbery, played by Haley Bennett, is an Edwardian astronomer who avoids love, while Mary, played by Lily Allen is a fearless suffragette.

Members of the cast and crew were spotted in and around the Lit & Phil today, with filming also due to take place at Beamish Museum.
