Stars out in Newcastle for premiere of 'unmissable' new Channel 5 drama at Tyneside Cinema
by Simon Duke, Iain Buist · ChronicleLiveBig names from the world of television were at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle on Thursday night, for the North East premiere of a new drama shot in the region last year. And, arriving on Channel 5 very soon, The Fortune is being billed as an 'unmissable' binge watch that will leave you guessing right until the end.
It would be fair to say that the North East is no stranger to a hit TV drama, just ask fans of Vera, who loved seeing many places in the area on screen, over the much loved show's 14 year tenure on ITV. In recent years, award-winner Sheridan Smith was in the region to film hard-hitting true crime drama I Fought The Law, which is now nominated at the TV BAFTAs after its success at the RTS North East awards a few months ago.
Channel 5 were in places like Benton, Heaton and Jarrow back in 2024 to shoot The Feud, the thriller with a cast led by Geordie acting great Jill Halfpenny and again earlier this year, when stars like Denise Welch and Lewis Cope stepped in front of camera in Hexham for Forever Home, a new Channel 5 series based on the book of the same name by famous TV presenter Graham Norton.
And on Thursday evening, stars like Eleanor Tomlinson, Stephen Tompkinson and homegrown talent Callum Woodhouse, of All Creatures Great and Small fame turned out for a special screening of The Fortune, the new four part thriller all about Eleanor's character Amanda, who has her world shattered after she is left an enormous inheritance by a man she has neither met nor heard of before.
The drama was produced by North East based Lonesome Pine, distributed by Sphere Abacas and supported by The North East Production Fund. ChronicleLive were there on Thursday to meet the cast, take a look at our photos from the event below...
