Shortly after 10.30pm UK time, news broke that Liam's body had been found after he fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel in the Argentinian capital. Police, firefighters and ambulances were seen outside of a hotel building after Liam's body was body found on an internal patio.

It's believed that Liam fell from around 13 or 14 metres and suffered "very serious injuries incompatible with life." In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.

"At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."

Liam, who has son Bear with Geordie star Cheryl Tweedy, first auditioned for The X Factor at the age of 14 in 2008, before trying again in 2010 when he was put into an unnamed boyband. That group, One Direction. ended up being the show's most successful ever act as, despite not winning, Liam, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan were propelled to huge worldwide success.

After the group went their separate ways in 2016, Liam forged a career as a solo artist, with hits including Familiar and For You, his Rita Ora duet from a Fifty Shades of Grey film.
