In one case a 78-year-old man was jailed for the attempted murder of his wife of over 33 years after she was stabbed a total of five times while she slept. In another case a 24-year-old bit his girlfriend and trashed her flat because he didn't have a present to open on Christmas morning.
And in another shocking case, a rapist who showed "extreme levels of violence and sexual aggression towards women" was jailed for 30 years. The 54-year-old was charged with 20 offences, including six counts of rape, three of indecent assault, two of unlawful wounding, and nine of assault causing actual bodily harm.
These are the names and faces of men who brought danger to women in the North East.
Darren Oxley
One woman had her jaw broken before her head was forced into a fish tank, while another woman had her head shoved into a microwave and the door slammed on her face, breaking her nose. He also forced another woman's hand into a top-loading washing machine filled with boiling water.
Oxley, 54, of St Thomas Court, Darlington, was charged with 20 offences, including six counts of rape, three of indecent assault, two of unlawful wounding, and nine of assault causing actual bodily harm. On June 18 he was jailed for 30 years and placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

Marcus Jones
The victim managed to escape the toilet by fighting back and raised the alarm. Jones, of Witton Park, Bishop Auckland, appeared at Durham Crown Court and was sentenced to 45 months in prison on Friday, June 19.

Ashley Hope
The victim was left so scared she resorted to temporarily moving out. Hope, 41, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stalking and was sentenced to four months in prison earlier this week. However, due to time he had already served, he was released immediately.
