Popular Northumberland restaurant permanently closes 'with the heaviest of hearts'

A Northumberland restaurant has announced its closure with immediate effect.

Bawn, on Main Street in Ponteland, rebranded in April 2023 to serve pizza and small plates, with the aim of becoming more approachable. In its previous guise as Eleven, it had earned a place in the Michelin guide, serving up fine-dining tasting menus.

However, a little under 18 months on and co-owners Danny Land and Stephen Pitfield have announced the restaurant's permanent closure "with the heaviest of hearts". The duo thanked their loyal guests in a post on the restaurant's Facebook page on Sunday night.

The post read: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the immediate and permanent closure of Bawn. We have had an incredible four years, we have met some of the most amazing people and made memories to last a lifetime, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and now is our time.

"The biggest of thank yous, from the bottom of our hearts, to all of our fiercely loyal guests for your support over these years, we have loved every single second of cooking for you."

Several Bawn diners expressed their disappointment, and wished the pair well for the future. One responder said: "Absolutely gutted, one of my favourite places to eat, delicious original food and relaxed atmosphere!"

Another added: "Really sad to hear this, Bawn was a fantastic addition to the village." A third said: "Thank you so much for some delicious meals, expertly cooked and presented, with immaculate service. I’m so sorry to see you go and wish you every success in your future endeavours."
