An autographed copy of a Beatles record is expected to sell for up to £12,000 at auction in Newcastle later this month.

All four members of the band signed the copy of the 1965 album Help! which is being sold by Mrs Annie Newby, from Durham. It will be offered with an estimate of £8,000 - £12,000 at Anderson & Garland's Music auction on Wednesday, October 23.

A letter from the original owner declares that The Beatles autographs were obtained at The Liverpool Hotel Adelphi, with John and Ringo signing above themselves and Paul and George below - all in black ballpoint pen.

The autographs were purchased by music enthusiast Bob Todd in September 1989. When he was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in 1990, he gave the signed album to his close friend, Max Newby.

Sadly, Bob passed away in February 1991. And eight years after Max's own passing, his wife Annie has decided that the time is right to part with the piece of music memorabilia.

Annie said that the album had brought both her husband and his friend "immense joy". She added: "After many years on display in my home, I feel it’s time to pass this special piece of music history on to another fan who will appreciate it as much as Max and Bob did. It’s important to me that it finds a loving home."

The autographs will be sold with written provenance from the original owner as well as a Christie's receipt for an insurance valuation which was taken out in January 1989.

There are thought to be fewer than 100 signed Beatles albums in circulation, with only two signed copies of the Abbey Road LP having surfaced. A signed copy of the group's final album, Let It Be, has never been seen.

The record is one of many lots at the Anderson & Garland Music Auction on Wednesday, October 23. Viewing takes place the day before at Anderson House in Westerhope.
