Manchester City leading race for new USA star – Better chances than PL rivals

by · Sport Witness

Manchester City’s efforts to scoop up talent around the world now has them hunting at Borussia Dortmund, for 17-year-old Mathis Albert.

Dortmund is known as a talent factory, to say the least, with several coming through the ranks over the last decade, most notably Jude Bellingham.

The German club are experts in scouring talent from around the globe and then handing them first team opportunities to develop. They often sell these players for huge fees down the line.

Bellingham, Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Ousmane Dembele are just some of the names to have done so in recent years. The latest is Albert.

USA star in the making

He made headlines back in September when he scored for the USA, helping to seal a 4-2 win over Chile. That was a historic moment.

At 17-years four month and eight days old, he became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the US national team. That saw him surpass Christian Pulisic, another Dortmund alumni.

Reports about interest from the biggest clubs soon followed. One such report in the US insisted that Manchester City are very interested in the winger’s development.

They have, reportedly, been monitoring the youngster for months. In fact, they already tried to lure him to the Etihad during the January and summer transfer windows.

Manchester City leading

BILD now report on those attempts.

They state that while no concrete offer has reached Dortmund’s management, they are well aware of the persistent interest in their rising star.

Beyond Manchester City, three other top English clubs have set their sights on Albert. They are Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. All three are keeping a close eye on the progress of the youngest U.S. player in Bundesliga history.

However, their chances of signing him are likely lower than those of Manchester City. BILD do not state why that would be the case, just that it is the case. The assumption would be that Manchester City can afford to pay fees that those other clubs may pull away from.

Either way, the belief is that Manchester City are at the front of the queue and already making efforts to secure his signature.
